Earlier in the day on Monday, RCMP asked the public to avoid the area of Westview Drive in Sylvan Lake as officers responded to “a disturbance in the area.”

Late Monday night, Mounties issued a release to say officers had been responding to an initial report of neighbours hearing what sounded like a gunshot coming from somewhere in or around a home.

Police added “an investigation into this event will continue through the night” and that more details would be released Tuesday.

Residents were being asked to follow police instructions to ensure their safety. People were also being urged not to post anything to social media with regards to police activity in the area in order to protect the safety of officers and the public.
