Royalists rejoice! Prince Edward to visit Calgary

His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, will be in Calgary on Friday, June 24 for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Gold Ceremony.

The 150 recipients of this award are young Albertans from across the province.

“The award program is designed to encourage experiential learning and participation in physical fitness, volunteer service, cognitive skills and outdoor adventure,” Candace Denison, the award program’s regional executive director, said.

The ceremony will be held at Canada Olympic Park and will end with a performance featuring current award participants who excel in music, sport, arts and science for HRH the Earl of Wessex.

Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell will also be there.

The awards are open to those aged 14 to 24.

There are 50,000 young Canadians participating in the program and 6,000 youth from Alberta.
