Youth charged after 2 Saskatchewan schools placed in ‘hold and secure’ mode

Saskatchewan RCMP have laid charges in relation to an incident that placed two Maidstone schools in “hold and secure” mode on Tuesday. The male youth is facing charges of uttering threats, mischief, public mischief, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and common nuisance.

At 8:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday, RCMP were notified of an alleged threat made toward Maidstone High School and Ratushniak Elementary School.

As a precaution, the Northwest School Division was notified and the exterior doors at both schools were locked.

The “hold and secure” mode was lifted before noon.

RCMP said the youth was arrested Tuesday morning at a Maidstone residence without incident.

The youth has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster provincial court on Friday morning.

His name and specific details about the incident cannot be released in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
