The Green Party of Nova Scotia has folded citing low member engagement, and no one stepping forward to assume leadership.

In a statement on the party’s website, outgoing interim leader Brynn Nheiley said that particularly over the past eight months, the party has struggled with getting people engaged, and without members, the party can’t continue.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“It’s a sad day for the executive,” the statement reads.

“With no one having stayed the course, or stepped forward for the leadership of the party, we are no longer able to function.”

Nheiley expressed sadness for the present and past executives who built the party from the ground up over the years.

“But, for a multitude of reasons, both internal and in NS political climate, that active support and engagement has dwindled over the years,” Nheiley said.
