Construction worker killed by driverless truck in Perth County

PERTH, Ont. – Perth County Provincial Police are investigating a fatal accident at a construction site south of Sebringville, Ont.

It happened around noon yesterday at the intersection of Line 32 and Road 134.

Investigators say a construction truck with a water tank struck the driver after he got out of the vehicle.

The driverless truck then took out a hydro pole causing a powerline to land on the roadway.

The truck driver, identified as a 54-year old Murray Hyde of Perth East Township, was pronounced dead in a local hospital.

The OPP, the Ontario Ministry of Labour and the Coroner are all investigating.

Sebringville, Ont. is about 56 kilometres west of Kitchener.
