Montreal man crushed to death in work-related accident

MONTREAL – A 21-year-old man has been killed in a workplace accident in Dorval near Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport.

At 10:50 a.m. police received a 911 call about an accident, which occurred at 636 Albert de Niverville Blvd.

The OK Pneu mechanic was in the middle of changing a tire on an airplane pushback tractor for Swissport, an airport facilities provider.

Then things turned tragic.

The jack used to carry the 17-tonne vehicle slipped and crushed the man as he worked.

“The only thing our mechanics heard was someone yelling,” said Serge Larue, director of Swissport.

“We found out that the young kid was under the tractor.”

The mechanic was pronounced dead on the scene. His name has not yet been released.

The Commission de la Santé et de la Sécurité du Travail (CSST) is investigating the death and confirmed that the process will take about six months.

Meanwhile witnesses and employees are being treated for shock.

“Everybody’s down, come to work and you see that. Even if you don’t know the person, it still hits you,” one employee told Global News.
