LASALLE – An innocuous orange cone is covering a very serious problem in LaSalle.

A sinkhole measuring almost one foot deep and almost four feet wide below the paved surface has appeared at the intersection of Dufresne and Lapierre Street in LaSalle.

The problem is no one is aware how large it’s is until they move in for a closer look.

What’s worse, a LaSalle borough public works official tells Global News the sinkhole won’t be repaired until Thursday.

The official says the sinkhole likely formed after soil below the pavement compacted so tightly that  it created an air pocket and the asphalt collapsed under its own weight.
