WINNIPEG — Tickets for The Tragically Hip’s farewell tour in Winnipeg sold out immediately.
The tickets went on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. CT, and were snagged up in less than a minute, leaving thousands of fans disappointed.
“Nobody’s happy, it’s complete chaos,” Janet Carriere said. Carriere had four people trying to get her tickets, but was out of luck.
“When they exploit a Canadian band that is potentially on tour for the last time because their front man is dying, it’s even worse.”
Almost immediately the tickets started popping up on resale websites for hundreds of dollars above asking price. As of 10:15 a.m., there were already 1,061 tickets available on StubHub for the Winnipeg concert.
Resale tickets range from $100 to $3,000.

Some people turned to social media to express their frustration.

Presale tickets for the final tour also sold out quickly in Winnipeg, after they went on sale Monday for members of the band’s fan club.
This will be the band’s last tour.
Singer and frontman Gord Downie, 52, announced last month he has terminal brain cancer, but still plans to play with the band for one last tour.
The group will play the MTS Centre Friday Aug. 5.
