Canada took the lead early in the first half on a goal by Jonelle Filigno in the 12th minute. Team captain Christine Sinclair scored in the 26th minute.

Canada faces the top-ranked United States in the semi-finals on Monday. Canada has beaten the U.S. in women’s soccer since 2001.

A win against the U.S. would send the Canadian team to the gold medal game. A loss means a shot at bronze.

This is the furthest a Canadian soccer team has gone in an Olympic tournament.
