The suspect involved in a case of illegal dumping at a Scouts Canada camp has returned to clean up the mess he allegedly left behind.

In April, Global News first reported about illegal dumping becoming a reoccurring problem at Camp Harris in Mineville, N.S.

The camp has been dealing with illegal dumping for years. They tried setting up a rock wall to deter people from leaving garbage on their property, but that didn’t work.

Finally, the camp decided to take matters into their own hands and installed a trail camera. That’s when they got photos of a truck leaving behind a load of wood and took to social media — and Global News — to find the culprit.

Within a few weeks, a suspect had been identified. This week, the man returned to the camp, but only partially cleaned up the mess that was left there.

Robert Chipman, chair of Camp Harris, told Global News on Friday that after an update to the story aired on television, the suspect again contacted the camp and returned to clean up the rest of the debris.

A city official will visit the site next week to conduct a final assessment before closing the file.
