She’s been a star since she was born in March, and now the Calgary Zoo’s female baby gorilla has a name.
Zookeepers narrowed it down to their three favourites, and then opened it up to the public to vote.
Since May 6, more than 47,000 people weighed in online to help give the new addition a fitting title.
With 38,486 votes, the winning moniker is Kimani – pronounced “key-MA-nee.” The African name means beautiful and sweet.
The other names, Maisha and Tulia, came in a very distant second and third place with just over 4,000 votes each.
