Last December, Global News brought you the story of a young hockey fan who provides play-by-play commentary for his visually impaired father at Saskatoon Blades games. Their heart-warming story garnered enough attention south of the border that they got called up to the big leagues.
On Tuesday, Gerry and Wyatt Nelson got to experience something truly special together.

The St. Louis Blues flew in the duo from Saskatchewan so Wyatt, 12, could keep his blind father in the game – an NHL playoff game.
The Blues made them their guests of honour at Game 2 of the Western Conference final against the San Jose Sharks.
Wyatt even got to call some of the action on the Blues’ radio broadcast during a break in the second period.
“It was pretty cool … getting to call part of the game at an NHL Stanley Cup playoff game, that was amazing,” said Wyatt on Wednesday at the Saskatoon airport.
“I was definitely nervous. It was a little nerve-wracking and then got out there and after about five minutes I got it under control, but I was pretty nervous going in but it was lots of fun.”

Wyatt said he’s “absolutely” considering a future in sports broadcasting and has even made contacts in the field who offered him their assistance.
“I have been proud of Wyatt many, many times already … but I don’t think I could have been any prouder than what I was last night when I sat up in the radio and realized first of all, that there was a 12-year-old calling an NHL playoff game and that this 12-year-old was my son,” said Gerry.
“Going to the rink and meeting so many Blues alumni there plus other NHL players that are there for the series. Kelly Chase a former Saskatoon Blade. Such a great, great friend.”
The Sharks won 4-0, evening up the series.
