LLOYDMINSTER, SK – The BCHL West Kelowna Warriors won 4-3 over the OJHL Trenton Golden Hawks Tuesday afternoon as the preliminaries continue at the RBC Cup.
It was not only the Warriors first shootout win in their franchise history, it was also the first shootout in the history of the RBC Cup.
Jonathan Desbiens, Quin Foreman and Brett Mennear put the Warriors up 3-0 over the Golden Hawks into the second period.
Trenton responded with three goals of their own from Hunter Fargey, Quinn Lenihan and Lucas Brown to tie up the game in regulation.
A four-on-four, 10 minute overtime period was scoreless.
In the shootout round, it was West Kelowna’s Liam Blackburn with the winning goal for the Warriors.
The win puts the Warriors in second place with five points while Trenton remains in first with 7 points at the RBC Cup.
West Kelowna plays the CCHL Carleton Place Canadians Wednesday in their final game before Semifinals begin Saturday.
