Man shot, assaulted and bear sprayed on Alberta First Nation

A 36-year-old man was found by RCMP inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound to his left leg on Samson Cree Nation Monday. Officers said he was also physically assaulted and bear sprayed.

According to RCMP, the man tried to drive away but had car troubles and couldn’t escape. The assailants jumped on the roof of the car and smashed out the windows, officers said.

The man was alone in the vehicle. He was taken to Wetaskiwin Hospital and then transferred to an Edmonton hospital by STARS Air Ambulance. He was in stable condition as of Tuesday.

Five men are in custody but no charges have been laid.

The investigation continues.
