WINNIPEG – Austin Smith pitched a two-hitter in his Elmwood Giants’ 6-3 win over the Pembina Valley Orioles on the opening day of the Manitoba Junior Baseball League season.

A total of eight games were played on Sunday including the Brandon Marlins’ first ever in the league. The Marlins joined the MJBL in the off-season, bringing the total number of teams to eight.

The regular season runs until July 22. The playoffs begin the following week with the MJBL Championship Final scheduled for August 8-12.
