Vancouver police are at Dundas and Nanaimo Street in East Vancouver to investigate what appears to be a targeted shooting.
The shooting happened at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday and the area has been taped off by police since.
Police say a 19-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds and sent to hospital.
“There was blood everywhere. Pools of blood. He got shot in the alley,” said one woman in the area, adding that it was her daughter’s boyfriend who was shot.
In a statement, VPD Cst. Brian Montague said early indications suggest the shooting was targeted and drug-related.
“Shootings are usually targeted at individuals who are involved in high-risk behaviour associated to guns, drugs or gangs — this attack appears no different,” he said. “However, when they take place in the middle of the day and in residential neighbourhoods, they put everyone at risk.”
