Calgary police said Wednesday the fire that killed five men in Falconridge on the weekend has been deemed “not suspicious” and non-criminal in nature.

The Calgary Fire Department will release the cause “if it is determined” once the investigation into its origin is complete.

The blaze broke out in the 100 block of Falchurch Crescent N.E. at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. Firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames, which spread to neighbouring property.

Sources told Global News 47-year-old Gurcharan Panesar, originally from India, is one of the victims. A funeral service for Panesar will be held on Saturday at the Calgary Crematorium Chapel.

Police will not release further information.
