EDMONTON – Several fire trucks were called east of Edmonton Tuesday evening for a grass fire in Sherwood Park.

Strathcona County Emergency Services said they were called to the area of Jim Common Drive near Charlton Way around 8 p.m. and could see thick plumes of smoke in the air upon their arrival.

They said the fire was threatening several nearby structures and that area residents used garden hoses to fight the flames until firefighters arrived.

Crews quickly got the fire under control but as of 10 p.m. were still at the scene putting out hot spots.

It is not known what caused the fire or how much damage was caused.

No injuries were reported.
