David Crawford of the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue says crews are looking for a man who went missing while hiking with his son in an area north of Sugar Lake.

The pair became separated on Friday. While the son was able to make his way back to Monashee Lodge, his father never showed up.

Crawford says rescuers looked through the night but had to stop due to the weather and challenging terrain.

Sgt. Dan Wendland with the Vernon RCMP says the search started up at 7 a.m. on Saturday. Wendland says two helicopters have been called in to find the missing man.

Wendland says the missing hiker is a 56-year-old man from the Okanagan. He did not know whether the man was an experienced hiker.

More details to come.
