Voluntary evacuation alert lifted in Alberta’s Clear Hills County

EDMONTON – A voluntary evacuation alert, prompted by a wildfire burning in Clear Hills County, was lifted for residents in the Clear Prairie area Sunday morning because of overnight snowfall.

The Alberta Emergency Alert was issued for Clear Prairie residents west of Range Road 100 at 8:10 p.m. Saturday because of the potential for high winds overnight. An evacuation preparedness alert remains in effect for other areas north of Highway 64 and west of secondary Highway 7 26.

The wildfire is burning north of Highway 64 and east of the B.C. Border.

On Friday, residents were told to be prepared to evacuate on short notice.

An Alberta Emergency Alert was issued at 11:20 a.m. Friday for residents living north of Highway 64 in Cherry Point, Bear Canyon or Cleardale.

Everyone is asked to avoid moving to higher ground and stay away from heavily vegetated areas.

Anyone having trouble breathing because of the smoke should seek immediate medical assistance.
