There were some scary moments for residents of a North Vancouver residential building Thursday afternoon as flames and smoke poured out of a fourth floor unit.
“I was in my apartment on the second floor and it smelled like something burning, something like plastic-y, for about five minutes before the alarms went off,” said Matt Hume, a resident of the building on St. George Ave.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but residents were still shaken up.
“It was scary,” an older resident of the building told Global News, describing how she and her husband had to go down 20 flights of stairs to get outside. “I could see the smoke coming past our 20th floor and I said to my husband, ‘We have to go.'”
Brett Walsh, another resident, said he pulled over when he saw people pointing to the tower.
“When I pulled up there was smoke plowing out of the balcony and, the next thing you know, I started seeing the flames come out as well,” he said.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but there were no casualties reported.
