A rally was held Wednesday in support of Vancouver School Board trustees who rejected the proposed budget cuts.
The trustees voted 5-4 last week to reject the proposed budget, which would have meant $24-million in cuts.
Last time the Vancouver School Board rejected a budget was in 1985, when they also rejected proposed cuts.
“We go to public schools and I think it’s important that there’s enough funding,” said one student at the rally.
“I’m really happy because we got to save the string program which has been really important to me,” added another young student.

One parent at the rally said they needed to show their support for the trustees who listened to their pleas.
“Our students are learning, our teachers are dedicated, we’ve got great outcomes, but we also need the resources to support them,” VSB chair Mike Lombardi told Global.
“So I basically invited the minister to join us and working together so that we can continue to maintain the great education system that we have.”
According to Lombardi, Education Minister, Mike Bernier, will present proposals to the board for review.
The board has until June 30 to submit a balanced budget.
