One of the two men charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault at the University of British Columbia‘s Point Grey Campus has now been granted bail.
Yuan Zhi Gao, 23, was granted release on $50,000 bail and a series of conditions, which include a curfew and a non-contact order with his co-accused.
Gao faces a charge of break and enter to commit robbery, while 28-year-old David Singh Tucker faces multiple charges that include break and enter, sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, robbery and wearing a mask with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The charges come after University RCMP were called to a break-and-enter at the 5700-block of Birney Avenue, in UBC’s southern residential neighbourhood, at 2:15 a.m. Saturday. Two suspects were immediately arrested and taken into custody.
Many of the details in the case are now subject to a court-ordered publication ban.
