Bike lanes are coming to Bloor Street.
City council voted Wednesday in favour of a year-long pilot project to install separated bike lanes along a 2.4-kilometre stretch from Shaw Street to Avenue Road.
The $500,000 project won overwhelming support at council after a heated debate pitting downtown councillors against some suburban representatives.

The bike lanes passed 38-3, with councillors Giorgio Mammoliti, Stephen Holyday and Jim Karygiannis opposing.
Mayor John Tory said the results of the pilot will be carefully studied.

The lanes will be installed this August, and local cycling advocates are overjoyed by what they’re calling a victory decades in the making.
