A 57-year-old woman from Saskatchewan has passed away after having a heart attack during a triathlon in Kelowna today.
It happened at the H20 Aquatic Centre, during the swimming portion of the Cherry Blossom Triathlon. Lifeguards were able to quickly get the woman out of the water and perform CPR, but were unsuccessful.

“Organizers are extremely sad to announce that despite the best efforts of all involved the athlete did not regain consciousness,” Cherry Blossom organizers wrote in a statement.
“The organizers would like to offer their sincere condolences to the family and also pass on the many well wishes sent by fellow athletes at the race.”
The women’s name has not been released. BC Coroners Service is investigating.
