The union’s president is travelling to Philadelphia in an attempt to get CFD Chief Bruce Burrell censured by the International Firefighters Association. It’s part of an effort to get response times back up to standards he considers acceptable.

“We have seen this many times in Calgary where your neighbour has a fire and your neighbour can be three houses away and the risks associated with where your home is located is almost as high,” said Mark Faires.

Faires added that the CFD is only meeting its accepted response time of eight minutes 30 seconds about 56 per cent of the time.
