REGINA – University of Regina cleanup crews were kept busy after a sprinkler system burst around noon on Wednesday.
The incident happened on the ninth floor of Paskwaw Tower, and leaked down through the floors and ceilings.
The university said roughly 20 student rooms and common areas were affected. Three students were displaced due to flooding and were moved to nearby residences.
The school said it called in a restoration company to help clean up the water.
“They will start to dehumidify the rooms and dry them out.”
According to the school’s security and operations director Pat Patton, the incident was due to someone hanging their clothes on a sprinkler cage.
“On the 9th floor, there were two or three rooms that had a fair bit of water damage,” Patton said.
The school said the sprinkler system was leaking water for about 20 minutes, and approximately 1,600 gallons of water leaked.
“Everything was very timely, and everyone worked together well and were able to minimize the damage which I think as a result,” Patton said.
The school hopes to get everything back to normal within the next 24 hours.
