MONTREAL – A 24-year-old man is in stable condition and being treated for an upper body injury after being shot by a Montreal Police officer early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on de la Commune St. in the Old Port after police were called to monitor a separate incident on a cruise boat docking at the nearby Alexandra Docks.
The 24-year-old man, driving a red pickup truck with two passengers, was approached by police after spinning his wheels in front of a group of pedestrians. One officer allegedly stepped on the foot rest of the vehicle in question and what happened next “remains to be determined,” according to Sûreté du Québec Spokesperson Daniel Thibodeau.

The SQ, who were called in around 5 a.m. to take over the investigation, believe the officer was dragged, and that one or more shots were fired, hitting the driver of the pickup truck.
The man was taken to hospital and treated for his injury. The two police officers on the scene were also treated for shock. After their release this morning, they were questioned by the SQ about the events.
Thibodeau confirmed that many witnesses have come forward to help string together the sequence of events. Electronic surveillance is also being used to determine what happened.
The SQ is encouraging anyone with information to come forward on site, or to call 1-800-659-4264.
