REGINA – The suspension of a Regina lawyer who has filed many high-profile class-action lawsuits, including one on residential schools, is on hold.
The Law Society of Saskatchewan says Tony Merchant’s three-month suspension for conduct unbecoming a lawyer has been stayed because he is appealing the decision.

A hearing found Merchant guilty for his actions in a case dating back to 2003.
The stay of the suspension was ordered Wednesday in Saskatchewan’s Court of Appeal and is now on the law society’s website.
That means Merchant is entitled to practise law until the appeal is heard.
Last month, Merchant filed a $75-million class-action lawsuit against Plains Midstream Canada after an oil spill into Alberta’s Red Deer River.
