MONTREAL – The battle between Uber and Montreal’s taxi business is heating up yet again.
Uber made a direct plea to the Quebec Transport Minister, Jacques Daoust, to not pass legislation that could penalize the company.

Uber Quebec’s General Manager said the government should create a new fund to reinvest in the taxi industry and deregulate the taxi business.
“Right now, what Minister Daoust wants, he wants us to operate like taxis, which we are not and will definitely kill our model,” said Jean-Nicolas Guillemette, Uber Quebec General Manager.

At the same time, one of Montreal’s newest cab companies was showing off its own fleet.

Téo Taxi, the all-electric car business took out some of their cars and drove them around the downtown core.
“We think we have a great product, very differentiated. It’s a branded product,” said Patrick Gagné, a Téo Taxi partner.
“Having a level playing field for everyone is the way to go. We’re in favour of competition, that’s the bottom line.”
