WINNIPEG -A medical expert has testified he believes the infants found dead in a Winnipeg storage locker were likely born alive.
Andrea Giesbrecht, 42, was arrested in October of 2014. She’s accused of hiding the remains in the locker on McPhillips Street.
Police made the grisly discovery after staff opened the locker because Giesbrecht was behind on her payments.
Dr. Michael Narvey has told court the infant remains found in the locker had all been from pregnancies ‘late in the third trimester’.
‘I believe some if not all of these children would have been born alive,’ he testified.
He also said it was ‘very, very improbable for someone to have six stillbirths.’
Under cross examination Narvey said he ‘can’t say with absolute certainty’ the infants didn’t die during child birth.
He said there was no evidence they had any diseases.
DNA testing has shown Giesbrecht is likely the mother of all six infants.
Court has also heard she has had at least 10 other legal abortions.
