Driver killed in southern Alberta highway crash

CALGARY – One person was killed in a crash east of Calgary on Tuesday.

Officers were called to Highway 797 and Highway 22X, just south of the hamlet of Langdon, at around 11 p.m.

One of the drivers, a man in his mid-30s, had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was taken to the Foothills Hospital in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP said both drivers were the only occupants in their vehicles.

The names of the victims haven’t been released pending notification of next of kin.

The collision caused the temporary closure of a portion of Highway 797.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision.

Langdon is location about 35 kilometres east of Calgary.

Global News has learned a candlelight vigil will be held Friday night at 8 p.m., just south of the town on Highway 797.
