Saskatchewan RCMP are advising motorists that both lanes of Highway 16 are open again after a large grass fire was causing problems on Monday. Officials said the blaze started on the south side of the road and crossed over the highway near the village of Paynton, Sask. As a result, RCMP members temporarily blocked off traffic.

According to the Highway Hotline, the road was closed in both directions from Paynton to Maidstone and there was zero visibility due to smoke.
A nearby business lost 15 scrap vehicles to the fire, while two others were damaged.
By 5 p.m. CT, the fire was contained.
RCMP say two passerby and a local resident helped crews and no one had to evacuate.
Maidstone police continue to investigate.
At this time, the Town of Paynton has a partial fire ban.
