Saskatchewan RCMP charge Alberta man with second-degree murder

Saskatchewan RCMP say an Alberta man is now facing an upgraded charge of second-degree murder after an injured man passed away this weekend. On Friday afternoon, police and EMS were called to a man in possible distress at a home on the Onion Lake First Nation.

The man was found and taken to hospital in Lloydminster before being transferred to Royal University Hospital (RUH) in Saskatoon for treatment of his injuries.

Based on the initial investigation, Louis Carson Pipe was taken into custody. The 39-year-old man from Kehewin, Alta., was charged with aggravated assault in relation to the incident.

The alleged victim and accused are believed to be related.

On Saturday morning, the man at RUH died from his injuries. His name has not been released.

RCMP say the charge of aggravate assault has now been upgraded to second-degree murder. Pipe is scheduled to appear Monday in Lloydminster provincial court.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at Saskatoon City Hospital.
