KELOWNA–A Kelowna homeowner is getting her back yard ready for the delivery of what will be Kelowna’s very first shipping container home.

She wants to rent it out as a carriage house to help her with her mortgage.

“When I knew I’d be able to get something in here in 8 to 10 weeks, with minimal disruption to me it was a pretty easy decision,” says Candace Hinz.

Devon Siebenga is the co-owner of HONOMOBO, the company bringing container homes to the Okanagan.

“So we leveraged the shipping container as kind of the exterior envelope but also added lots of elements to make it a beautiful home,” says Siebenga.

He says as soon as the company announced it was setting up shop he was flooded with inquirires.

“When we released our initial pre-launch to get the word out initially and to gauge interest we had thousands of people sharing, thousands of people asking for more information, thousands of people anticipating the launch.”

The public will get a chance to check out the container home.

It will be on display in the parking lot of the Orchard Park Mall on June 11.
