MONTREAL — It’s a video that has Metro users talking: a group of people crawling through a manhole, taking pictures of passing trains and lighting fireworks on the tracks.
While it might make for interesting footage, it’s also illegal.
For those who use the Metro each day, it’s like nothing they’ve ever seen.
“It’s almost like, well, not breaking into a bank but you can put it into that category of being unusual,” said newspaper distributor Dennis Spiropoulos, standing outside the Place Saint-Henri station.

Three suspects, aged 22, 28 and 53, were arrested in connection to the video.
Montreal police said the three could face charges of breaking and entering, public nuisance and possession of breaking and entering tools, which could mean 10 years in jail.
“We had information from the public, from the STM,” said Montreal police agent Carole Lalonde.
“There are a lot of cameras in the subway.”
The STM declined an interview with Global News, but said that since the incident, they’ve reinforced security measures.
The first step: welding all the manhole covers shut to stop trespassers.
“I don’t see any security at this station anyway,” said Spiropoulos.
“I’m here every day Monday through Friday and there’s been no security the past three or four weeks.”
Lalonde confirmed the metros are being policed in the same way and people should feel safe despite the incident.
Since the video was posted on YouTube on March 26, it has gotten over 140,000 views.
The suspects were released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in court on May 5.
