Two men alleged to have helped Braidy Vermette escape arrested

Two men alleged to have helped an accused killer escape in an ambush are in police custody. Richard Favel and Wade Halkett are charged with helping Braidy Vermette escape on March 30 at a Prince Albert hospital.

Vermette is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Troy Napope.

He escaped after two masked men – one armed with a gun and the other bear mace – confronted correctional officers.

Vermette was captured on April 7 leaving a home that was on fire in the RM of Buckland.

Favel, 30, was arrested on Sunday at a Prince Albert home while Halkett, 25, was picked up Tuesday at a Prince Albert residence.

Both are charged with helping Vermette escape lawful custody, assault with a  weapon, use of a firearm in the commission of an offence and disguise with intent.

Favel is also facing a charge of breaching his recognizance.

Both were scheduled to appear Wednesday in Prince Albert provincial court.
