According to Toronto Hydro the power outage was caused by a fire in a circuit breaker.

Toronto Hydro reports the outage, which started just after 8p.m., stretched from Carlton Street to the north, the Port Lands to the south, Jarvis Street to the west and Bayview Avenue to the east.

Initial reports indicate an incident at a transformer station on George and Adelaide was the cause of the outage.
