Despite losing its mother, one red-tailed hawk chick still has a fighting chance thanks to the concern of a Coldstream couple.
Denis Marson and his wife had been watching the nest of hawk chicks since they hatched three weeks ago. After seeing the mother struck and killed by a truck on nearby Highway 97, the Marsons were concerned about the chicks.

The baby birds needed to be removed from their treetop nest or else they would starve to death. Marson got in contact with South Okanagan Regional Rehabilitation Centre for Owls and a rescue was completed with Horizon Tree Service volunteering to get the birds down using a cherry picker.
Sadly, one of the two chicks had already died but the second was strong and uninjured and expected to survive.
