Quebec marks 40th drowning with death of sixteen-month-old girl

 

MONTREAL – Police have confirmed that a little girl has died in a Montreal suburb on the west island.

The 16-month-year-old girl was drowned in the family swimming pool on Labrador St. in Kirkland at around 9:40 a.m.

Her mother called 9-1-1 in a panic after finding her daughter in the water.

She had not realized that her daughter knew how to get out of the house.

After turning away for just seconds while her daughter was watching television, she returned to discover the toddler had gone outside.

Unnoticed by anyone, the little girl had fallen into the water.

The child was found unconscious and not breathing and Urgence de Sante were called immediately to the scene.

Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was transferred to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

This marks the fortieth drowning in Quebec since the beginning of the year – up from 27 drowning deaths at the same time last year.
