Some Netflix Canada subscribers will see their monthly subscription fee rise next month.
If you’re still paying $7.99 for the standard HD option of the video streaming service, you can expect to see your bill bump up to current pricing.

Netflix says it will be “releasing” a number of its members from price grandfathering for HD plans, starting in May.
Those members will have the option of continuing to pay $7.99 but with a downgrade to the basic SD plan, paying $9.99 per month to keep the standard HD plan, or going to a premium HD account for $11.99 per month.
The price increases shouldn’t come as much of a surprise; Netflix announced a price increase in May 2014 while introducing its basic service, but said that existing subscribers to the standard plan wouldn’t see a price jump for two years.

“Beginning May, the price update is rolling out elsewhere based on member billing periods,” Netflix said in an emailed statement.
“Impacted members will be clearly notified by email and within the service, so that they have time to decide which plan/price point works best for them.”
In October, Netflix raised the price for the mid-level package to $9.99 monthly. Those who had signed up at $8.99 before that time will continue to pay that price until October, when their bill will rise to $9.99.
