North Battleford takedown and arrest captured on dashcam

An arrest in North Battleford, Sask.  is causing a stir on social media after it was captured on a dashboard camera.

The video shows a minivan rushing through an intersection. A plain clothes officer leaps out of the van and stops a man riding a bicycle by diving at him.

Another plain clothes officer then comes out of the van and helps to hold down the suspect. Other marked and unmarked police vehicles then come to the intersection.

The video, called “Epic RCMP Takedown!,” was posted on YouTube on April 5. It has been viewed over 6,000 times.

North Battleford RCMP say over the weekend they received numerous complaints about a man being involved in criminal activity. The man was identified by police, who determined he had existing warrants.

Then on April 4, North Battleford RCMP found the man and arrested him. Prior to being arrested, the man had fled from RCMP on a bicycle.

The suspect was not injured but one officer was taken to hospital due to a shoulder injury. He has been released and is expected to make a full recovery.

Police have obtained the dashboard camera footage for their investigation and the people arresting the man were all North Battleford RCMP Municipal Detachment members.
