A major revamp is in the plans for the City of North Vancouver.

The city has now finalized plans for a new community project at the old shipyards site at the bottom of Lonsdale.

The city says it will feature the largest outdoor public skating rink in the Lower Mainland and will come with a looped skating trail to complement the open rink area.

The rink will operate during winter with a water play area in the summer months.

There will also be an enhanced public stage, commercial space, as well as a proposed hotel.

At least 140 more parking spots will also be made available.

Mussatto says they hope the new venue will help them attract major events to the city.

Remediation work at the site will begin this spring and the project is scheduled to open in the fall of 2018.

A public information session will take place on April 25
