WINNIPEG – Model train aficionados are showing off their prized possessions in Winnipeg this weekend.
The Winnipeg Model Railroad Club’s annual open house and train show started on Saturday at the Charleswood Legion.
The event features a photo contest and a separate model contest in which 32 different entries are vying for first place.

While the competition draws some hardcore model train enthusiasts, organizers hope the open house inspires a younger generation to get involved with the hobby.
“It’s good to see the kids come out and view the trains and we just hope that some of them will put away their toys and stuff and maybe take-up model railroading eventually,” said Morgan Turney, the club’s program director.
The Winnipeg Model Railroad Club has been around for 60 years.
The two-day open house and train show runs both Saturday and Sunday at the Charleswood Legion from 11-4 p.m.
