There are about to be some new faces patrolling the streets of Halifax.
Friday morning, 20 new Halifax Regional Police officers were sworn in during a ceremony at the Halifax Central Library.
Some of the recruits come as fresh graduates of the Atlantic Police Academy in Prince Edward Island making this their first policing job.

Other recruits were previously serving with various policing agencies before making the move to the Halifax Police.
Jean-Michel Blais, Chief of the Halifax Regional Police told the crowd gathered at the ceremony that Friday was not just a special day for the new officers and their families.

It’s also an important day for the history of the Halifax Police force, April 1 marks the 20th anniversary of the amalgamated police force.
“Today, these men and women are seeing the success of their hard work and dedication after competing with a large group of applicants for full time employment with our police service,” said Chief Blais.
“As chair of the police commission and representative of Mayor Mike Savage, regional council and the residents of HRM, I welcome you,” Councillor Russell Walker, chair of the Police Commission, told the officers.
The new recruits will fill existing vacancies within the patrol division of the Halifax Regional Police.
