REGINA – NDP Leader Cam Broten has held a town hall meeting in Regina, where he highlighted his party’s platform and questioned the Saskatchewan Party’s record on spending in government.
No new promises were announced, but Broten reiterated a pledge to hire hundreds of nurses, care aides, teachers and educational assistants if elected.

The NDP leader told supporters that he also plans to sell the government’s airplanes and cut back use of private consultants to save money.

Broten also took a swing at the Sask. Party’s spending, accusing it of hiding cuts by not releasing a budget before the election was called.

A financial update released just days before the campaign started showed that the government is running a $427 million deficit this fiscal year and will be in the hole next year too.
On Saturday, Broten was in La Ronge where he talked about plan for the north, including reducing electricity rates for northern residents and businesses.
