CALGARY – Select bars, pubs, nightclubs and hotels across Calgary will be offering an extra hour of liquor service next week in honour of the Juno Awards.

The 2016 Juno Awards Host Committee applied for, and received, a temporary extension of liquor service for 15 select venues and hotels.

The extension means participating venues will be able to serve alcohol until 3 a.m., instead of wrapping up at 2 a.m.

“We’re pleased that this extension will offer our guests extra time to enjoy live music within our core music host venues,” spokesperson Marco De Laco said.

The extension runs from March 31 to April 3.

The Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission (ALGC) granted local bars and restaurants the ability to serve booze starting at 8 a.m. (two hours earlier than usual) during the Calgary Stampede in 2015 and 2014.

The AGLC had also relaxed liquor rules to allow bars and restaurants to open early for the Olympic gold medal game between Team Canada and Sweden in February 2014.

Several Calgary bars took advantage of the move and began serving booze starting at 5 a.m.
