Poo Protest: Regina woman highlights excessive dog droppings

REGINA – A Regina woman is fed up with what she calls a ‘dog dropping infestation’ in city parks.

Now, Leanne McKay is taking matters into her own hands by showing just how much litter has been left behind at Patricia Park.

Using coloured flags, McKay spent the first day of spring marking each pile of droppings.

“I had 200 and I only have 25-30 left and we’ve only been out a few minutes,” McKay said Sunday afternoon.

Over the mild winter, McKay said she saw dog owners come and go with their pets, many of them never bothering to stoop and scoop.

“As you can see… this park is just full of dog droppings.”

At Patricia Park, the signage is clear: owners take responsibility.

City crews clean disposal bins at public parks on a weekly basis, and litter bags at the off-leash park daily.

But if dog feces hit the ground, that’s where it stays.

“It is disgusting. I can’t believe how much there is.”

“I think people have absolutely no idea that this is not acceptable,” dog owner Gabriel Hewitt-Creek said.

Another dog owner, Jan Morier, said the park wide mess is a result of laziness.

McKay is now hoping her so-called ‘Poo Protest’ will plant an idea in the minds of other dog owners.

“My message would be: you can see what you’ve done, what your dog has done, please come and do what’s right,” McKay said.
