Murder suspect Marissa Shephard sent for 30-day psychiatric evaluation

Marissa Shephard, charged with first-degree murder in the death of Baylee Wylie, has been ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment done before the case can go any further.

Shephard is due back in court on April 15 when officials will determine if she is fit to stand trial.

Members of the Wylie family say they are pleased with the judge’s decision to send Shephard for an evaluation.

“With a first-degree murder charge it’s imperative that we get that out of the way first, so there’s no chance of anything coming back … later on,” Amanda Wylie, Baylee’s mother, said outside the courthouse.

“So yeah I’m actually pretty happy.”

Wylie said Shephard and her son were friends while in middle school, but lost touch for many years. She believes the two just started dating at the time Baylee was killed.

Shephard’s former roommate believes she is fit to stand trial

Courtney Mullins, a cousin of Baylee, also claims the two were dating.

She had been living with Shephard for more than three months in the apartment where Baylee was killed, moving out only a week before he was found dead.

“It destroyed me. He has a lot of friends that loved him and he didn’t deserve this,” Mullins said.

“I did not want to believe that someone I knew and someone I lived with, who once said that I was like her family, killed my own blood.”

Mullins also said she believes her former roommate is capable to stand trial, especially considering she managed to evade police for more than two months.
