CALGARY – RCMP have released the identity of a man who died after being found badly injured in a Red Deer alley.
Dawson (D.J) Wegner Cramer, 23, was found in distress in the area of Nordegg Crescent at around 5 a.m. on Wednesday. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.
On Thursday, RCMP revealed more details surrounding the young man’s death.
Investigators said they believe Cramer was trying to stop two suspects from stealing his 2001 white Ford F-650 when he was injured.
The thieves were able to flee the scene in Cramer’s vehicle. RCMP found the Ford F-650 abandoned a short distance away on Page Avenue.
RCMP now confirm both crime scenes, which were cordoned off on Wednesday, are part of their investigation into Cramer’s death.
Witnesses reported seeing two men run from the vehicle into a wooded area.
Officers are hoping to speak with anyone who may have seen Cramer’s F-650 between 4:50 a.m. and 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday. Investigators said the vehicle, which was being driven erratically, travelled in the area of Nordegg Crescent, Nolan Street, Page Avenue, Gaetz Avenue and 76 Street.
Anyone with information, or any recordings of the white F-650, is asked to call the Red Deer City RCMP Detachment at 403-343-5575 or contact Crime Stoppers.
